My eye has been really red for the last couple of days since I slept with my contacts on. I have done this a number of times in the past, but, have never had an issue.

I am going to see a doctor, but, wanted to hear if others had had a similar experience. Also, should I see an Opthomologist, or would a Optometerist do?

I wear bi-weekly soft lenses (Acuvue 2), and both my eyes have a power of under -2.0. I'm religious about changing them every other week.

This exact thing happened to my son. He has eye allergies, and that seems to make him more prone to infections. He had healthy bacteria (that we all have) get up under his contacts and cause an infection. I would see an opthomologist, as you will need a prescription for drops. My son had to stop wearing his contacts for two weeks (one week to put in the drops, and one week to continue healing the eye). This was after falling asleep in the contacts for 10 minutes in front of the TV on a few nights in a row (he had been real busy and tired that week, and I just let him do it, thinking how short a timeframe it was couldn't do any harm). I would wake him, make him take out the contacts, and send him on to bed for the night (he normally takes his out daily). However, it was just enough time for an infection to take hold. Long story short, don't sleep in your contacts, even for a short period of time. Don't swim in them, either, ever. My son uses Elestat drops during change of seasons or any time his allergies act up, as well. He also vigorously washes his eyelashes twice a day with a washcloth and baby shampoo. It seems to help the buildup. No-rub solutions are misleading, too. You need to rub the contacts and rinse them daily to remove the protein.

Sometimes you can be so tired that you forget to take your contact lenses out. When that happens and they get red and sore you should help ease the dryness with over the counter eye drops. Pick out a good brand. And skip wearing your contacts today. Wear your glasses instead (you should always have a back up pear of glasses just in case). Put the eye drops in and then put a warm wet wash rag over your eyes and close them and lay down for about 10 minutes, this should help out a lot. But it may take a day or two for the redness and soreness to get better.

Contact lenses are good as long as it is germ and protein free. The reason for your eye redness is that your contacts are already accumulating proteins thus preventing oxygen from flowing in your eyes which results to redness. I do not recommend using contacts that are left in the eye longer than a week.

See an ophthalmologist to check your eye for any infection. Optometrists only prescribe lenses. They cannot give medical prescription.

It does happen because our eyes get dry when we sleep. It happened to me too but it went away. Just an advice, you should not sleep with your contacts on. Just see an ophthalmologist. Goodluck!

You are not getting enough air to the eye or you may have come in with more pollution this week. Or your fit may be incorrect to flat I would think on the Correna .I personally would take them out rinse them or clean in solution and put them back in to keep the plaque from building up on the lens

you have an eye infection and will be prescribed some drops. This happens to my guy all the time because he is horrible at taking care of his contacts.
