Go to the vet! You're talking about broken bones here, or worse yet, a broken spine! A dog's tail is an extension of his spine. This may be serious.
Never give your dog human pain killers. they are poisonous to dogs and can kill a dog.

Well, first off, everyone who is telling you to go to the vet immediately if you think that you broke the poor fella's little tail is 110% correct. They are obviously the ones best suited to diagnose and treat injuries. A thorough examination of the tail and if needed, X-rays are your best bet. There is not a whole heck of a lot they can do for the tail, unless it is severly broken and required surgery or worse. Otherwise they would most likely just wrap it real good and if needed, splint it to one of his back legs to immobilize it as best as possible and administer pain killers. If it was not broken and they treated him just for pain they would most likely use Rymadil or Deramaxx, both are anti-inflammatory pain meds that seem to work well on a wide variety of pain types.
I prefer Deramaxx as it has shown to have a lesser occurance of side effects and has a longer 1/2life so it only needs to be taken every 24 hours....but it's like gold. However, I think we all realize it is late and you most likely don't have access to a vet.
If that is the case you can give your dog buffered aspirin to help him tonight. Depending on the dogs size a regular strength buffered aspirin would be fine. BUFFERED is the important part, otherwise it will upset their stomach. I have done this for my older arthritic dog, 1 in the morning and 1 before bed. This is/was approved and actually suggested by my dog's doctor. However, I personally would not use this for any extended period of time.
Best of luck and hope the poor guys tail is ok!

I can tell you this...NO, NEVER ASPIRIN ! It can kill your dog ( or cat ) If his tail is broken he will need to see his vet but until then
keep him as calm as possible, is he making noises to indicate he is in pain ? Is his tail dragging or bent ? If you use alternative medicines then I would HIGHLY recomend the Rescue Remedy products, available at most health food stores. Get ARNICA and it will start working imediately...you can NOT overdose...give it often. Drops in the mouth...GREAT for trauma, pain, shock, bites, everything of that nature. Until then, keep your dog resting ! If he has a fever...you have a problem ! NEVER feed a dog with a fever. Give hydromel...Honey ( raw ) and water mixed together and just keep him quiet.
I hope this helps,
Take good care

If the dogs basically cried out in discomfort while the wound exchange into touched why do you have chose to hazard giving him a drug that could kill him. Human Mobic is plenty greater advantageous than the Meloxicam dosage vets prescribe for dogs. shop the wound sparkling or only bypass away it on my own if cleansing motives discomfort and take him to the vet as quickly as you may in all probability get there, he could prefer sewing up. If he exchange into my dogs i could be on my thank you to the emergency vet now if i assumed the wound exchange into too extreme to attend until the following day morning. do you be attentive to ways long the wound has been there? Did it ensue in the present day, the day earlier in the present day...while? Is it conceivable the dogs have been given caught under something an injured himself attempting to get out?

You can give him a low dose baby asprin....what the vet actually said to give to our dogs when they've injured themselves and are in pain.
However, like somebody else suggested....if you think you BROKE your dogs tail, you should take him to the vet. What does your dog do if you try to touch it's tail?? Or if you are able to, does he whine at all?? Might even just be badly bruised. I've never heard of a dog breaking it's tail....but that doesn't mean it can't happen I guess.

CALL YOUR VET ASAP. Never give your dog any medication not prescribed by a vet or recommended by a vet. Dosages vary and you could do more harm than good. The vet needs to do an x-ray to determine if the tail is broken.

Ibuprofen is very bad for dogs! You should just call an emergency vet and ask. Acetaminophen is usually okay, but in some dogs can cause problems with the liver, so I wouldn't administer it yourself. Especially to a small breed, if that's what you have.
If his tail is broken, xrays will need to be taken. You don't want it to get infected and risk the rest of his body's health.

Cephalexin in an atibiotic that is perscribed for both dogs/cats and humans alike. It is used for pain, infection and inflamation. Usual dosage for 75-90 lb. dog is about a 500mg pill, twice a day. But always consult your vet before medicating your pet. And if you can't get any Cephalexin, Advil works wonders. My dad gives his hunting dogs advil for their aches and pains and it seems to work really well.

depending on the size of your dog, give it some baby aspirin, or maybe 1/2 for a very small dog. but only if he looks, or acts in pain, watch him to see how he acts, and call the vet tomorrow.

Don't give it anything, unless you talk to a vet first. Some places have a 24 hr. vet hospital. Try looking it up in your phone book and then see what they say. I'd hate to give something to my own dog trying to make it feel better then end up making it worse.
