In a day, how often is your mind quiet and self reflective or is it always thinking about something?

What if 99% of that 'thinking' was just a bad habit? Something actually *preventing* you from truly understanding the world and yourself. How would you ever know by continuing to think about things?

Do you even want to know?

Could we all be in danger of loosing access to our inner being completely?

I agree that thinking may be just a bad habit.
I am also coming to see that the endless analysing and discussing we are socially encouraged to do in relationships is just a lot of ego noise.
I ache to grab hold of a deeper sense of connection with life which hovers just out of reach and which may disappear altogether one night when I am watching t.v. or debating something pointless with a family member.
When I sit quietly and reach into a feeling which connects me through time to generations gone before and a child walks into the room, smiles and sits down to observe silence with me, I am momentarily whole.

Unfortunately my mind is never quiet. I always have at least ten things going through my head at one time. It drives me crazy. I've tried meditation to quiet things and get in touch with the real me, but I can't seem to figure out how to shut my brain down. I think that most people have lost touch with their inner beings. It's kind of scary when you think about it.

My mind goes non-stop. It's a mixed blessing. It's kind of like a computer that has a lot of processes running in the background. It's generally not a problem, as long as the processes aren't malicious, and the computer can handle the CPU being used.

Unless we're sleeping, our brains are never quiet. I think it's pretty neat. Even if I'm just standing there at the bus stop thinking about nothing, it doesn't work. Seconds before my brain shuts out every bit of incoming sensory information, a song will pop into my head. And then my brain just sits there listening and digesting music. I kind of like it, myself.

Not often enough. It seems like I am always thinking about a million things. I try to turn off my thoughts, but I usually can't. On the other hand I'll sometimes ask my husband "What are you thinking about." He'll answer, "Nothing." and mean it. It drives me nuts. How can he do that?!

I've done meditations for years, but even when I do clear my mind it's not actually completely clear because of the conscious effort it takes to keep it clear

my mind is never quiet...it is very hard to shut everything out and be self reflective. I don't know if I have ADD, or what.

Well, I feel that even if 1% of our time is spent wisely, it's a good start.

Perhaps soon we'll turn it into 2%.
