I'm not sure if I have accidently changed a setting in Photoshop, but when I press Alt and click on the area to be cloned and then click on the area that needs the correction, I can't see the results. I'm in desperate need of getting this corrected... please help!!!!

I'm not using any layers and the diameter of the brush is very large. I'm tried holding down the Alt key every possible way. Still not sure if I changed something that will not allow me to immediately view the results of my cloning

OK. If you've done everything everyone else has suggested:

No layers, image is not 'selected' by lasso or marqee, your mode is normal, your opacity & flow are 100%, then I suggest you reset the tool:

I'm assuming you're using CS, but this works in PS7 also:

In the upper left hand corner of your screen, click on the drop down arrow next to the clone stamp icon. Then click the arrow in that window and click on 'reset tool'.

Hope this helps!

Make sure that your opacity is not set to 0% and your mode is "normal." You are probably used to working with 100% opacity and normal mode.

Make sure that you have selected the "Clone Stamp Tool" and not the "Pattern Stamp Tool," which is the other option under cloning in Photoshop Elements. I don't know if this exists in Photoshop, but check anyway.

1. check if you are in the correct layer
2. check if the layer you are working on is above the other layers
3. check the size of your cloning tool, it may need to be adjusted

sorry about that, if you're not using layers.
are you using a Mac? Because the key is the "option" key to select the Cloning Stamp area.

Do you have something selected with the marquee tool or lasso tool? Select one of those tools, click once on the picture to de-select everything and then try your clone again. If anything is selected and has the 'marching ants' you won't be able to do anything.
