It isn't the fact that you gave your nephew a badly needed haircut. It is the principle of the whole situation ---- you didn't first ask his parents if it was okay. Your brother is mad because you also made him feel like he can't provide for his family. Things that deal with someone else's children should first be talked over with the parent of the child. I would apologize to your brother and tell him you will not undermine his authority in the decisions for his child again and understand you stepped over the line. Just explain that you were trying to do something nice and simply forgot to ask first.

Uncles/Aunts have no real rights over peoples kids. Sounds like it must have been a bad haircut that will now have to be fixed by a hairdresser for $20. Always ask parents permission before you do anything at all. I know how he feels everytime I look at the little girl next door with a fringe cut half way up her forehead...I wish I knew a way to instantly grow it back.

that is great you took the iniative and cared enough to help out but my husband would have been livid too.

if you gave him a bad haircut that can be traumatizing to a child. it is scary knowing that you are responsable for what could make or break your kid in elementary school. lol

did you do a good job? i hope so. :)

Well, if it looked like crap when you were done, he wouldn't appreciate it. Or you didn't cut it the way he would have liked it cut. Maybe he just didn't want it cut at all!! You could have gone over the boundaries there and did something without asking?! I would ask next time before doing something like that.

he mayb e your nephew but he isn't your son.
Al
though this is not the same scenario but imagine that you have a dog and your friend decides to take the dog for a walk and when they return you realize that your friend has given the dog a bath.
You might find this offensive because it is almost like saying that you couldn't take care of the dog yourself.

Perhaps your brother felt that you were telling him that he is not taking care of his kid...

because before you do anything with someone elses child you ask the parents if it is even ok you cant just take liberties. I know your intentions were good but you should always ask the parents first even if it is your brothers child.

well first of all did you ask your brother if you could cut his son's hair, afyer all it is his child, I'd be mad too, They probally wanted his hair to grow for awhile, they have that right, and you took it away from him, shame on you

Did you ask him first? Oh girl I don't blame him. Apologize ok. What you truly thought was a kind gesture was not. You trespassed him. Good luck babe.
