Any smoking will hurt the painting but more important it WILL harm YOU

Absolutely, my husband smoked cigars for years and our paintings got a yellow brown film on them; we had to have them cleaned professionally and also our walls and carpets.

smoke of any kind leaves a film on surfaces that are acidic and will cause damage the same is true with cooking oils which cause damage to artwork in areas close to kitchens
