My husband has flat fingernails. I've never noticed this on anyone else before. Instead of having curved fingernails, he has flat ones. Does anyone know what the reason for this is? Does anyone have, or know of anyone that has flat fingernails? Is there anywhere that I can read about this??

I asked my doctor about weird shaped fingernails years ago. He said it was genetics. I have one nail that will wrap around my finger as it grows and my grandmother had the same thing. Check his parents and grandparents.

If i interpret your description correctly, it sounds like he has spatulate fingers, Are the tips of his fingers wider than the rest of the first joint? If so, the only medical indication is that it -might- point to a thyroid problem. Have a panel done next time he has blood work.

Incidentally, in palmistry, those with spaulate fingers are thought to be active-minded, practical, inventive and prone to tinkering; the quintessential basement inventor. ;)
