My girlfriend has long, skinny fingers. I am deciding between an emerald cut, oval cut, radiant cut or princess cut (rectangular). I like the princess cut because it is very sparkling.

Of the cuts you named, princess cut is the most popular. Has she mentioned any favorites?

I have an emerald cut with a channel set band and LOVE it because it's unique and so few people have it!

If she likes to be unique, I would go with the radiant or emerald...if not, go with the princess or oval cut..which both look great on skinny fingers.

Good luck with your engagement!

I think you should ask her what cut she might like or if you want the proposal to be a surprise ask some of her girlfriends or see what she points out in the store windows. If she wants something unique go for a pear or marquise cut they are beautiful and due to the shape look larger than they actually are and are often flattering to all women. A more popular is the princess and round cut should you go that route perhaps try an additional gem in the band to give it a personal touch. Either way im sure when given from the heart it will be meaning full and cherished.

Oval cut is good. I like a pear cut as well since it is less common. I would be very wary of the princess cut. The corners can break pff easily.

You may also wish to consider other stones in place of a diamond. The tradition of using diamonds was actually started a little over a hundred years ago by DeBeers-the diamond merchants. British royalty usually use stones such as natural saphires, emeralds and rubies, with diamonds only as accent. In their natural forms, not lab created, they are actually rarer than diamonds.

You have some good ideas here. An oval or princess cut would look best on someone with long thin fingers.

If you like Princess, then you'll really like the Asscher cut...it combines the brilliance of a Princess with the soft edges of a round cut. They are a little hard to find, but most places can and will special order one for you.

Radiant cut is prettier, in my opinion. But what does she like?

Also, the cut of the ring and the shape of her fingers don't affect each other.

my b/f let me pick my ring and i thought that was the most wonderful thing ever. he let me pick and then later when the time was right he went and bought and surprised me with it. Like that i have the ring that i always wanted. some say this takes the romance out but at i am wearing the ring that i chose but came from him.

Ask her her favorite cut. She's the one who will be wearing it. Every woman has her own taste and style.
