As I understand it, only 15 to 20 per cent of the US war effort was devoted to the the Pacific theater, until Germany surrendered. I'm just curious as to how many American dead this translated into.

gregory_dittman and tonal_c both got the answer, but gregory dittman got the precise number, whereas tonal_c left out the people not buried in the Philippines, although that number is on the embassy web page he cited. Thanks to you both.

I do not no the exact number, but is was much higher then that of Viet Nam and that war lasted 13 years not 4 years.

16,636 is the total listed for dead in the Pacific Theatre. It doesn't say how they died.
