It is just peanut butter. All that may happen is your dog may get diarrhea. If this happens withhold food for 12 to 24 hours and you can give a little kaopectate. After the initial 12 to 24 hours give half of the daily meal next resume feeding as normal. IT was a small bag I hope. In any case call your vet or a 24 hour vet they will not charge for the call. It is better to be safe than sorry!!!!

my chihuahua ate a bag of M&M's and ended up in the emergency hospital. He too just seemed tired at first but then went into seizures. I think the peanut butter isn't so bad though. Maybe he just over ate and is lethargic. I'd still call your vet though to be on the safe side. My vet has an after hours number to call. Yours may too.

My chihuahua got into a bag of hard candy and ate an undisclosed amount. We found many pieces buried throughout the house :). She got a little belly ache, but she was fine.

She got hold of a sugar-free coughdrop once and that was ugly! artificial sweeteners may have a laxative effect when consumed in excess and ONE cough drop was excess on my little girl--she's just under 3 lbs. Well, she had explosive diarrhea! But she was okay. It was just really loud.

And she eats a dog treat called Chocodrops and is fine.

Thank goodness your dog ate the reese's pieces instead of m & m's!

Good Luck!

Well... Typically, people make too big of a deal about dogs eating chocolate. A dog would have to eat near it's weight in chocolate for it to actually be dangerous but in this case, it sounds like your dog did eat near it's weight in chocolate! I'd suggest taking it to a vet... Immediately. Find an emergency animal hosptial if your vet isn't open right now. That's a lot of chocolate for a dog that size to eat... A few pieces, I'd say no big deal but a whole bag? That's a big deal.

Chocolate is toxic to dogs but it varies by the type of chocolate. The ASPCA has a great website with info on toxicity amounts for different chocolates. Reese's pieces likely don't have a ton of chocolate in them but your dog is very small so the amount of chocolate may not have to be very high to cause a problem. I bet more likely it will upset his digestive tract and cause vomiting and diarrhea. It can get worse if the pancrease gets inflammed too. I would get this dog to vomit ASAP to get this out of his system. Take him to a vet or call one for info on how to make this happen before he gets into trouble.

I would take her to the vet. My Chi is so tiny (under 5lbs) that if she ate a whole bag of candy she's be really sick too.

I don't know if the Pieces have chocolate in them, but even that much sugar would be bad. Perhaps there is a vitamin shot they could give your pup to enhance her immune system, or something they could give her to throw up the candy before it makes her sicker.

I'd take her to the emergency vet if it was my Chi.

I do not know what size bag your little dog ate. I would just keep an eye on her for now, she'll probably throw up due to an upset stomach.
If you are truly concerned that it is more than an upset stomach, bring her into a local vet (or emergency vet, since it's Sunday).

I wouldn't take a chance with my dog's life. I would take her to the vet ASAP. Hope she is okay. I guess first you could call the emergencty vet and ask them if they think she will be okay or should be checked.
