A question for people who whine so much about illegal immigration?

Is it because most of them are people of color and Hispanic that you hate them so much? Because I'm pretty sure that if they were Europeans you wouldn't care.

Funnily enough, America has whined over immigration, legal and il- for centuries. First it was the Native Americans (who of course were scarcely "immigrants" but they were treated as such, or worse. Then ex-slaves and descendents thereof, forcibly brought to America, unless they "knew their [subservient] place" and stayed on the plantation; then the Chinese who were brought over because nobody else could physiclally build the railroads; then the Southern Europeans because they were Catholic (or perhaps Orthodox, if from Greece) and they "smelled funny" from eating garlic; then the Jews because -- well, just because. Then the Irish. Then Puerto Ricans, who after all are American citizens. All of these were considered an economic threat, a drain on welfare and charity, a dumbing down of the population -- you name it.

And now Latinos. True enough, white Spaniards who speak the same language seem not to be resented. And nobody ever resented my daughter-in-law's late father, a doctor of European stock who came from Argentina, or her mother. Or my daughter-in-law who, to the extent she speaks Spanish (I am told she doesn, but haven't heard her speak it) does so with a Long Island accent.

So: you are partly right: there is that old bugbear of fear of miscegenation and cultural depletion or pollution. But there is also the recognition that uncontrolled immigration in Marxian and Malthusian manner keeps down the wages of the lower middle class and below.

But one ought to recognize that the migration is due, in large part, to US economic policy. To NAFTA (and it wasn't to Mexico -- as Ross Perot predicted -- that US jobs went, but to China) because Mexico has to accept duty-free entry of American goods. And to US crop subsidies (that go not to the family farmer, on whose behalf they are defended but to Agribusiness -- who donate heavily to Congressional campaign war chests) that cause subsidized grains to flood Mexico and put local farmers out of business. So their farm hands, laid off, head North to earn money to feed their families.

That's the story as I see it. But I live in Europe. Here it's African cotton and sugar farmers, impoverished by US and EU crop subsidies, who head North.

Barbarians at the door they say.

Well, previous generations of "barbarians" assimilated well. Whether the new generation will is questionable for two reasons: easy communications with the old country, family reunification and chain migration. And Islam, more than any other culture and religion, hinders assimilation (compare the experience of Christian and Muslim (respectively) Palestinians and Lebanese and Egyptians in Europe and the USA).

Actually, I am a white liberal democrat, and I have called INS about europeans that are here illegally. There was quick swift action on them, but when I have called on hispavic illegals, nothing is done. Perhaps it is because the INS knows deep down inside that the illegal hispanics cannot go back to south of the border, where their wonderful paradise will send them back here. Kind of like Guatamalins that illegally enter Mexico. They go to jail.

I see some still believe that the undocumented don't pay taxes, OMIGOD how dumb. If anything they will never get anything for the taxes they do pay. Only if a person works "under the table" will taxes not be taken out. I would have hoped people would use their brains for that simple analysis. If you have a job and used a ssn (real or fake) taxes are taken out... And yes what I've seen throughout my life the white skin people are rarely discriminated against only the darker skinned. I grew up in Idaho and I know first hand the discrimination against darker skinned people. I heard "go back to your own country? My response was "you first" . My ancestor were here before the white Europeans invasion.

Obviously, based on your name, you live up North somewhere where the tide of illegal immigrants isn't really a problem for you yet. I'm not that lucky. I live a few hours from the border and the tide has completely overtaken my city and state. I couldn't care less what race they are, it's just that they happen to be Hispanic where I am. I want all illegals out of this country. If they want to come back legally , fine, leave and come back legally.

Well, I'm pretty sure you're wrong, illegal immigration's a crime, and I don't care what color you are, what gender you are, or where you're from...

Illegal immigration's a symptom, the problem is too many people, not enough jobs, not enough money, not enough opportunity in other parts of the world. Put your money where your mouth is, pull up stakes, and go move somewhere else and start a business etc.

You can show people Hospitality without wanting them to move in with you.

No, it is not because of cultures or race you might want to look at other reasons. In this case-how about laws and a sense of order (we have had some problems caused by this not being followed). Until those laws are changed (I hope tougher but fairer) we need to have some order-and that is what many what.

Well i dont whine and i dont hate but either way you look at it illegal immigration is illegal immigration whethere there from europe canada france its all illegal. It would be wrong for me to hate because of color thats just ignorant i hate it because if they want to come in they should do it legally. why would anybody be stupid and just come on over illegally do we do it to them ? There ARE Europeans sneaking across our southern borders. Anybody in the world can sneak across our southern borders.
My question is why you think it's okay for foreign nationals to sneak across our borders and U.S. citizens shouldn't complain about it?

I don't care if they are albino's!!!!! I don't want illegals here at all and I still say ship their sorry behinds back where they come from and don't let the offenders in legally for 10 yrs. Even if they are albino's they are sucking our system dry, taking every advantage without putting anything back into our country and think they can break all our laws!! I welcome all the buitiful wonderful legal mexicans!
