Ive heard of people who dont need to "buy" electricity for their house because they have it all there. Anyone know how this is done?

Buy 1,000 hamsters and force them run on their wheels. Of course, you can allow them to take shifts, but at least 1/3 must be running all the time. Hook the wheels up to a generator and you've got yourself your own power station.

There are two ways that I can think of - hook up solar panels to your house or install a wind mill. The effectiveness of each will depend on where you live, but you should be able to find out what is available in your area. In some states you can get the government to pay for some or all of the costs involved. Do a internet search for "alternative energy sources" in your state and see what you find. Good luck.

there are many places where you can buy solar panels to put on your roof, if you have enough space you can also buy a wind turbine. Places whit these things are still hooked up to the electrical grid, but when you produce more energy than you use, the power meter runs backwards; produce more than you make in a month and the power company has to pay you!

You can use solar power, geothermal or if you have enough land on a mountain then wind. Solar has and is the easiest to attain and from what I have read is becoming far more affordable. There are more ways but these are the most popular so far.

Solar panels make it relatively possible, but it's not really feasable right now. To have a solar arrangement powerful enough to run your house if would probably cost $50,000 or more.

...it's coming but it's not here yet, and you can count on lobbyists bribing congress to slow the progress down.
