When female cats go in heat do they bleed?

I know that when female dogs go into heat they bleed and you have to buy speical diapers for them. Well I have a boy and girl kitten, they are 5 month old. And I know that when they are 6 months old the girl can go into heat. I want to get both of them fixed but right now i only can afford to fix one of them. I want to get the boy fixed so he doesnt spray all over! But I would rather get the girl fixed first if she bleeds all over when she is in heat. They are indoor cats so i know that she wont get pregnant if i get the boy fixed first! But does she bleed when she is in heat?

No she doesn't bleed when she's in heat.

Instead she's most likely to become very affectionate, roll around on the ground, crouch & lift her bottom up & also make loud wailing meow noises ... the meowing is why when a cat is in heat they sometimes call it calling.

Females can come into season for the first time - anywhere between about 6 & half months old (though that is early) to just past a year (if you're lucky)

As they don't go out, I think you're wise to get the boy done first ... however watch out for your female as she may try to escape when she is calling.

No, cats do not bleed. Bleeding is a the body's response to an egg that is released, goes unfertilized and needs to be removed from the uterus, which is what dogs & humans do. But cats are induced ovulators, which means they need to mate in order to trigger the release of eggs. And since the eggs are fertilized as soon as they are released and lodge in the uterine wall, the lining does not shed (which is what causes the bleeding).

Usually you won't notice any bleeding from a cat in heat. They will drive you crazy with bizarre behavior but not bloody discharge like a dog. Is there not a spay neuter clinic near you? Lots of places have them and they are cheap. Humane societies can usually help too if your income is low enough to qualify.

My cat did bleed when she was in heat. She didn't bleed much, but she would drip around the house every now and then. However, I'd say the spraying thing would be the first thing I would want to stop. There are the little diapers for cats...there's not a whole lot you can do about spraying.

nope. the dogs do though.
fix the boy first, it'll spray and be all macho going out to look for
girls. it might get killed in the process. even if it's an indoor cat, it'll find a way out.

however, the female will be LOUD during heat, and will attract lots of tomcats. if you are going out, put her into a bedroom before even opening the front door.

if you fix the boy too late, he still might retain the bad habits.

p.s. even if you fix them, they won't get fat. unless you overfeed them.

They are just funny and roll all over the floor and stuff.

We did have to get our indoor female cat fixed though. She ended up getting an infection in her uterus that almost killed her. The vet said it was from when she would go into heat, her cervix would open up and bacteria can get in there. Then when they don't get pregnant, it closes back up and the bacteria just "brews" in there.
She started leaking yellowish/brownish stuff and that is how we found out. We took her to the vet on a Saturday and they said if we would have waited till Monday, she would have been dead.
So I would get her fixed when possible, but definitely get the male done first!
