I love Canada.
I am American, living in Canada, married to a Canadian.

Canada is "fresher", cleaner, more pristine than most of the U.S.
Of course, it has twice the landmass and one-tenth the population of mainland U.S.A., so that has a lot to do with why.

The national health care system is such a good thing ... even though it has it's problems, at least anyone can get medical care when it is needed and not go bankrupt doing so. My husband just spent a week in the hospital, and if we were in the US, we would suddenly find ourselves another $25,000 in debt. As it is, we are only "out" his two weeks without working/pay. Medical costs have been the financial ruin of many an American.

Canada has lower crime, and does not have the slums that many U.S. cities and towns have. Sure, it has skid road and red light districts in it's cities, but they are neither as large nor as run down, filthy, and hopeless as many in the U.S. As someone else noted, I also have noticed that Canadians are much less materialistic than most Americans. The whole culture is less so.

As for the people of Canada, I find that they are not as friendly, kind, and helpful as they like to portray themselves as being. And customer service in most retail stores is nearly non-existent. Canadians do tend to be more patient on the road, less road rage; and more patient overall than Americans are. And many ARE friendly and kind ... it just is not to the degree that most Canadians try to claim it to be. It's only a bit more than your average American, if that.

Another mention about the health care system in Canada ... I was very frustrated by the way the hospitals are ... this is hubbys third time in hosp in five years, in three dif hospitals ... and all experiences were similar. None of the perks and amenities that Americans are accustomed to, and everything moves S...L...O...W! No one is in a hurry to do anything. The same things it took a week to be done for him in Canada would have taken a max of 48 hours in the states, though as noted .. we would be paying for it ourselves.

I have only visited three of your provinces, and that was not recently. The people seemed friendly enough and the landscape was beautiful. We seem to get very little news here in the states about your country. It leaves me wondering what is Canada about? I really don't have a good idea but would like to as some of my families roots are in your country.

I was born, there and have a bro and sis there. I is much different than here. Less violence better health care. There is less "keeping up with the Jones'" going on. It seems like they are less materialistic for som reason. Maybe because the tax is so high people try to conserve more and care more for the environment. I wish I could move there. But you should try to visit The Sunshine coast which is in Vancouver, B.C.

I am glad people generally don't know much about us..I travel a lot and amazed that you don't hear what goes on in Canada. I guess just minding our own business and making this a GREAT place to live is not international news.

I like Canada. I am a little disappointed in some of your more liberal citizens cutting down the US and being quite vicious in their verbal attacks on us. We have always been an ally of Canada and have been there if needed like any good neighbor should, so I don't understand why we get verbally attacked. As far as everything else, Canada is great! I have visited several times.

I think Canada seems like a nice place. I've been there once, to visit my cousin who lives in Windsor, Ontario but Windsor is right by the border so it was exactly like the US.

I think Canada gets really cold winters with lots of snow, and I think they have cold summers in some parts and warm summers in some other parts like in Ontario, because when I went to Windsor it was like in the high 80s.

I think some Canadians are really mean to us Americans though. I've seem some nasty stuff on here about us. They make fun of our healthcare system, they say it's dirty here with lot's of crime. They go ON AND ON about our government's laws and politics, and the war. I know not all Canadians are like that but some of the one's I have seen on Yahoo Answers, try to tear apart the US in any way they can. I saw a question once, and this girl was asking how cold it would be in Toronto. She did state that she was from the US. One answer went "******* american, you people are idiots". A similar question was asked by a lady from Britain. All the answers where lenghty friendly answers.

I don't like seeing that, and it changed my view of Canadians. People always say how nice Canadians are, but I have found them to be nasty at times, almost always to Americans.

eh!

foreign country, conveniently speak the same language as we do (sort of), gotta go at the right time of year (May-September) to avoid freezing tuckus off. Bit cheaper, more exotic foreigners, fish and chips, weird liquor laws when you want to buy a six pack. Long days in summer! Friendly people, kind of innocent and goofy
