The cordectomy is a last resort for the incessant barker. It shouldn’t be used unless you’ve tried and failed with training, and less drastic methods.

Warning: this will be a long post.
Let me start off by telling you that dogs have three ways of communicating: physically, tonally, and spatially. Physically is just what it sounds like, dogs communicate with body language, the tonal part of dog communication is the various tones and pitches of barks and growls that dogs use in their communications, and the spatial communications are done through the relevance and distance of a dog's body to another body, be it dog, human or otherwise.
If you were to remove your dog's capacity to bark, you are effectively cutting the dog's ability to communicate with the world by one-third. I personally believe a cordectomy is no less unkind to a dog than if it were done to a human. Have you considered any other options?
You might try to seek out a Pomeranian breed club or rescue (most if not all rescues are no-kill) and have your dog placed in a new home where the barking will be either accepted, or corrected through training.
Have you considered seeking a canine trainer or behaviorist to help find the root of the problem and address the issue at its root? You probably don't want to hear this, but a lot of unwanted canine behavior originates with the owner, through a variety of means, some intentional, some unintentional. A trainer or behaviorist could help you to find the causes of your dog's barking and teach other, more socially acceptable behaviors in place of barking.
The final thought (pointed question/scenario) I would like to leave you with:
How would your life be impacted if, at fourteen to fifteen years of age, your parents decided that you talked way too much? Even though through the past fourteen plus years of your life, they encouraged you to talk endlessly, they simply decided you talk more than they care to hear, and ordered a cordectomy for you. What would your life become with a large capacity of your communication to the world removed?

i be attentive to somebody who had, confident had to try this to her dogs. She bred Std Poodles, and while she began her kennel she became into basically out interior the country, over the years, the city she became into close to began coming up round her. New human beings moved in, and those human beings did no longer delight in the fact that they have been stepping right into a community the place there became into an latest dogs kennel. The neighbours began to whinge with regard to the barking from the kennel, and my buddy became into confronted with shifting her kennel(no longer possible - by money constraints), getting rid of her dogs that she took the time and skills to reproduce and tutor( she became right into a to blame breeder, according to hazard a million clutter a 365 days, all dogs in her care have been shown to Championships), or the less extreme de-bark them. She chosen to de-bark them as she could no longer arise with the money for to %. up her kennel and circulate it, nor could she area with a number of her older dogs. She did place a number of the dogs into properties, so as that they does no longer could submit to the surgical treatment. So merciless it is, sometimes human beings have not got any techniques. Oh and on the time, bark collars weren't as fairly got here across as they're now, and what she might have been waiting to locate could have been the 'ask your self bark collars'(no longer an appropriate option to her). even while de-barked the dogs does nonetheless have a bark, it basically isn't as loud, sounds greater like a dogs barking from some blocks away, as destructive to precise beside you.

I truly believe it is cruel, it is very natural for a dog to bark. I sympathise with you. I like my dogs to bark when someone enters the yard, however I have done such a good job to get them to stop barking at everything, that now sometimes they don't bark at all, and I am sometimes caught out by visitors when I am running about the house half naked. Yikes.....

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Learn more http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?aZ02
The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.
The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.
Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

It's not cruel. It's a fairly risky procedure but it's not cruel. I'll tell you what is cruel... And I've done it... Getting rid of the little ankle biter. I had two French Poodles, very yappy and annoying dogs, also very up-tight and not very personable... I put them up for adoption at TMAC. Then again, I don't like small dogs... One thing you might try, before forking out thousands for a surgery, is spraying him with a water bottle when he barks. It works on ALL my animals: cats, dogs and bird. Good luck to you.

Actually it is good for a dog to bark. Because it can protect your home any strangers or suspicious characters. I believe that your dog is barking because there are strangers that are near your home. Just explain to your roomies that it is O.K. for a dog to bark.

personally, I think it is cruel to do that. There is obviously some reason for his barking, though, so I would take him to a vet and explain your living situation, and get some behavior advice. Also, you can find free help online by googling 'pet advice'

I say go for it. My cats are declawed and I am happier so their life is better cuz I am not pissed at them for tearing up my stuff.....So I say snip snip and cut the cords. Then maybe your roomates will be happy and so will everyone else and the dog can start to feel the love lol and not the tension that it causes. Besides, its not like its a watch dog that needs it voice to be useful. WOW I sound mean....but really I am not...I also dont understand why we cant just pull the teeth out of dogs that bite and then they would not have to be put to sleep. Who cares if tehy have not teeth...they can eat soft can food.
