My 2 year old male was a stray adopted from the local humane society. He came to us with ear mites. We gave him the drops ( he has always hated that/ hard to do) Recently, he started shying away from head pats, does not want to eat and actually looked like crap and is still sleeping alot! I took him to the vet 2.5 days ago where he was sedated and had his ears flushed out. I bought more drops/cleaner for his ears, but I know he is going to fight me every step of the way. I am trying to get my hands some some Revolution topical that kills mites, worms and other pests but my vet does not sell it. I will work with what I have for now. NOw Another one of my younger indoor kitties that is usually full of energy has been doing nothing but sleeping. He sort of eats and drinks and is still using the litter pan. I think he has a fever. He had recently been treated with a topical, so I know he does not have mites or worms. Coincidence that they are both sick? Cat flu in both? Help!

ear mites do not cause animals to just lay around and sleep. they cause icky blackstuff that smells bad and will actually seep onto the hair around the ear if left untreated. on your cat from the shelter, did you have him treated specifically for tape worms?it sounds like you need a vet who specializes in felines. if your young cat has a fever, htere is infection somewhere in his body. whatever you do, do NOT give him apsirin. i would venture a guess that they have both contracted some sort of contagious illness and could use a run of antibiotics. good luck

Tons of reasons for this situation. Possibly the adopted kitty has passed the ear mites to the other kitty and now he doesn't feel well too. Possibly the adopted kitty has brought home a virus and passed it on. Is the first kitty fully vaccinated? Also, just because they were treated for worms, doesn't mean that they don't have any. Parasites often "shed" at different stages. When you think you may have killed the parasite, you may not have killed all the eggs. Also, not all "topical's" kill all types of worms, but only a few. They also don't kill all "life stages", meaning that a product may kill the flea but not the larvae that becomes the flea. I would suggest getting to a vet ASAP. Good luck.

If your vet doesn't carry Revolution, you can order it on line from a reputable site, like Pet Meds.com. It is a prescription item, and they will contact your vet for permission to dispense it. It comes in the mail in two to three days. With expiration dates to consider, most vets keep only the basics in their office anymore, and they are more than happy to use an on-line pet pharmacy service. Why not ask him?
