if your friends hair already has color on it DO NOT USE PLAIN HAIR COLOR! the only thing that is going to lift any color out of her hair is bleach with a strong developer. and achieving even tones is very difficult because there is no control with bleach. half of her head could be white blond and the other side be orange or gold. if you do decide to take that change you will have to use the bleach to take out all of the color and then tone it with a toner. usually toners with purple bases work best for extra light hair BUTT WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! her hair is going to be seriously damaged after all of this and it will probably feel like a rubber band when wet and like straw when it is dry and there is a risk of breakage and hair loss. so if i were you i would not dream of doing something like that to a friend!!!! seriously consider going to a salon!!!!!

We were asked similar questions alot so added the following section to our website...

Its advised to get this done by a hairdresser however as cost is often a factor in this it can be done at home but be careful - the most damaging part of bleaching is the last stage from yellow to white so stop when hair is yellow shade and use a toner (lilac toners neutralise yellow tones in hair) - Lilac toners are also called white toners sometimes and both Special Effects and Manic Panic make these lilac/white toners. Never leave toner on your hair too long otherwise your hair will start to take on that shade.
With bleaching check results regularly and if possible use a lower volume and do two small bleachings with some time inbetween them - still damages hair but 2 x 20 volume bleachings for 10 mins each is much better than 1 x 40 volume for 20 mins! If you can pop into a Sallys or Salon Services type place and ask them about the bleach as they can check the texture and condition of the hair and advise best on volume etc to use.

no hun seriously do it , my hair is plantinun now and used to have dark hair , i bought salon srong bleach and got my mum to do it. and it looks fabulous. remember to keep an eye on the time it says on the box as if it goes over your mate could end up looking like an old woman with grey/white hair. remember blonde hair needs plenty of conditioning and would reccomend hot hair treatment once in a while. also when dyeing , make sure you have everything you need on hand like towel, shampoo, bleach. also when the bleach has been applied keep checking on the hair itself cos if the bleach takes to it quicly the colour will develop quicly and will need to be washed off. ok have fun girls , have a glass of wine and have a good night. i really hope the hair turns out grear, i know it will. good luck

They are telling not to do it for a reason. I know you don't want to hear this, but it's the truth (and the truth sometimes is annoying, what are you gonna do?) In fact, if you take that risk, chances are that your friend's hair will come up looking GREEN! Yes, green, because tha yellow pigment from the platinum blonde will combine with the blues hues that most browns have. DO NOT DO IT! It's not worth it. You could ruin your friend's hair, and your friendship too!

platinum blond with brown looks gray. in order that which you be attentive to. professionally speaking, i could say a carmel colour (so it won't look pink, yet greater impartial colour) personall speaking, i could get a halo (a strip from temple to temple, interior the hairline one inch) of a colour like crimson or crimson. it basically exhibits once you turn your head or the wind catches your hair only desirable. it relatively is basically a splash of something-something to be exciting and distinctive. i did this to a customer of mine at prom time. she exchange into blond. i did a band of blue and a band of crimson then an updo. her gown exchange into irridescent. she appeared so cool! she looked like a doll (an definitely doll) in pictures!

it would help if you bleached it, and then dyed it, cause its probably not gonna turn out that great if its not a close shade to her natural one. and also, when dying hair, make sure you freakin SATURATE it practically cause its better to get all of the places than to have some spots.(i just dyed my hair and my friend did a really bad job, and then i dyed hers and people asked her where she had it done )

Yes. Step away from the process and let a pro do it.
I am not a pro but, my hair was ruined by someone that did not know what they were doing when lightening hair. It's much different than dyeing.

Please Please Please don't do this yourself. I have 10 years as a licensed stylist and I don't suggest doing this at home. Nothing from the store is going to lift it up light enough, and color won't lift color, so going lighter once, then going again isn't going to do anything but give you a beatiful hot cheetoh looking mess, I promise. GO TO THE SALON!!!!

Ok, do it if you must, but when you screw it up, don't come on here & ask me how to fix it.

I've never done my hair color myself, and I hear what your saying, but if you have any doubts, at least talk to a proffesional. They can give you tips how to color your hair and treat it properly.
