When I was 16 I had the same problem. I got acrylic nails and they cost what seemed like a TON of money at the time. I stopped putting my hands in my mouth then. I am 32 now and have never had my nails off, I love the way they look and I go every month to have them done.

It is sooo hard!!! I stopped for like 8 months but bit and now I cannot stop again!! So when u do quit, try not to think you can grow them back easily again-- you might but i didnt!!
I used clear thickening polish that is all. Its like a week(2 for me cause they were SHORT maybe 3 weeks till u really notice but then they like grow sooo fast after that. And when you have them, you just dont bite!! Naturally! They look so much better-- than nubs, healthier, glamorous. I didnt realize how bad it looks to other people, it opens a door for them to totally judge you. I'd think what a stressed out person, or how gross ( cause IT IS--nasty dirt and germs, the stuff you dont see) or that they dont care about there appearance, or they have addictions, or they arent stable,a worrier, someone with no control. Thats not how I want to be percieved. Atleast if I have nails, then I can hide some of my insecurities or issues from them. Screw them. Anyway, its so fun too, to wear different colored polishes, etc. Oh I totally forgot!!! Buy Fingr's fake nails(with the GLUE not sticky pads) and clip and file them to your liking they will last 5-7 days and if they start falling off just carry the glue with you always, you'll notice when to take them all off and reapply new nails. Do this for two packages of nails worth, during the first two weeks, by then the nails will have serious growth, may look straggly but just file if you can and POLISH with clear stuff, BE STRONG, that 3rd-4th week is tough. One month you'll have nails baby i swear. Im gonna do it again too. Buy those nails!! they're toughest and most natural. The glue works good too for other household stuff too

Try painting your nails with a bitter polish like- Jessica 'Nibble No More,' a no-nail-biting polish with bitter cactus extract as its secret ingredient ($5 at jessicacosmetics.com).
Put some lotion on your hand that gives a taste that will change your habits. Hmm... maybe you should taste the lotions?? lol well, whatever works.
Acrylic nails are harder to bite off, and I had them on for 6 months once(with one time coming back to get the white color refilled on the tips) The nails will grow very long underneath.

thers stuff u can buy that tastes bad, also, try to have ur hands occupied, and if they arent wear gloves
i still do sometimes, but maybe as u get out of it, try to wear nail polish often, then u'll be less likely to bite them either b/c they look pretty or u dont want nail polish in ur mouth
+ think about when u bite nails most, then figure out what would be best to do for that time
and dont worry, i didnt really do much of this stuff, and i eventually, mostly, grew out of it. i still tend to when im writin an essay or somethin

to stop biting my nails, i got fake nails professionally done for 20 bucks, my nails grew under them, when i took the fake nails off, my nails were long and pretty so i didn't touch them- during having fake nails i would bite them, not hard just to break the habit of biting them off

you can buy a special nail polish and when you apply it and bite it it tastes so bad you wont bite. also why not apply false nails and that way when you go to bite youll get a mouth of plastic and also if you do bite them you wont be biting your natural nails so when you take them off your nails wil hqve grown

get an extremely pretty nail polish color so you'll feel bad about biting it.
and maybe add some glitter to make your nails even prettier.
its a habit. you will get used to not biting it eventually.

There are products sold in the nailcare section of most drugstores that are designed to help with that. Their terrible taste helps wean you from the nail-biting habit.

I have the same problem... and I love long nails... I couldn't have long nails because I always bit them. Then I got fake acrylic nails. You should try it... you'll feel really good about yourself also!
