How would you define ego in terms a 7 year-old can understand?

To the guy who thinks a 7 year-old is too young for that concept, I completely disagree. If a child is old enough to ask a question, they're old enough for an age-appropriate answer.

well, i've explained this to my kids certainly by the time they were 7. i have a pysch degree, so i explained the id, ego, and superego.

the id is the part of us that wants what we want when we want it and we'd kill to get it. the superego is the part of us that incorporates all the instructions from mommy and says - you can't hurt others to get what you want. and the ego is the part that figures out how to satisfy the id and the superego. the ego wants to make the id socially acceptable.

if it's about the phrase 'big ego' - it just mean someone thinks a lot of themselves, and ego is, as others have said here, the way you think about yourself and the way you reveal yourself to others.

It's the part of your brain that has the most control over your personality, how you behave and how you feel about yourself.

I, too believe in answering kids' questions honestly in an age appropriate way. Although it isn't always easy, is it? LOL!

Who you think you are. The way you see yourself. For example you might have a big ego there for think you are better then other people or you could think your a bigshot.

i asked my 6 yr old she said it is what you think of yourself, don't ask me how she knows that but on further investigation my ego is what i think of myself a bad ego is when i think i am better than others.. good luck
