mmr. mom say don't let trimmers in children's hands untill there old enough to be taught 10 or 12

kids shouldn't trim their own fingernails, an adult should do it for them.

How about a nail file? No sharp edges.

it depends on how old boy or girl? you should keep doing it for them there aparently not ready
