If our goal is to capture and / or kill terrorists, then we should send in probably 40,000 to 50,000 more troops AND the right equipment for a few months.

If our goal is to establish a lasting democracy in Iraq, then we should start withdrawing troops a few months from now. It is impossible to democratize Iraq in just a few short years.

HOWEVER, if the remaining troops are placed at higher risk, then bring all of them home after we have made another effort to stabilize the region during the next 4-5 months.

You asked a great question, with no easy answers.

Only coming from a "DUMDUM" would you get an answer like that. I AM in the military and having been so the past 24 years...We shall stay the course in Iraq and do so until they can take care of it themselves. But again now thing of Germany in WW2, Iraq is Germany 1944(minus the insurgents)...We will have a few PERM US military bases there to "cover our butts" in that area, Syria, Iran etc. And if you Iraq is something, wait a few years....Iraq is a skirmish to what lies ahead!

I think they need to stay, but things need to change. If we start pulling our people out we are putting the ones that are left (they can't bring them all home in one day) in great jeopardy. Personally I think the Senate and Congress need to stay out of it and let the people that know and are trained in this area take care of it. Most politicians have never served in the military and only know what they read or are told. I don't know how they can tell people how to handle something they have never done. If they would let the heads of the military run the show (so to speak) I think things would be going a lot different over there, for our people as well as the ones that want our help in getting them their freedom.

Do people not know that the USA knows Iraq has WMDs because Bush Sr. gave them to Saddam when Iraq was at war with Iran?

this is just my opinion but i think that our troops should stay in iraq until late 2007 because if you watch the news they have done some unbeleivably good things for that country but with the democrats in office and their disrespect for the military they will probably come home in about april or somethin like that.

I doubt they come home. Unless that's where the war is. Since this war has very little to do with Iraq in the first place.

It's a hopeless quagmire over there, and there's nothing we can do. I see no possible point in remaining. I'm kind of afraid the only reason Bush is keeping them over there, is because he's planning on attacking Iran soon.
