Make it known to all that this planet has been visited by intelligent beings from other worlds and we had better get use to the idea and that it will continue. That we are not alone. I believe that it would create a new sense of unity amongst us. The race, creed, ethnicity.etc, etc that divides us will loose it's significance. Because now it will be the people of Earth and the people of the planet whatever. Instead of it being like the Sci-Fi movies depict there would be new advancements (they're more advanced if they can get to us and we can't get to them)against our energy problems, Global Warming, Poverty, Disease. Hunger et al. Because we are human we think that all others must share our agression. If they were hostile they could have conquered us a long time ago. We may not see it happen in our lifetime, but the day will come.

Now THAT is a toughie.
Just to be different, I'd eliminate democracy and startup meritocracy. You'd have to have demonstrated civic qualities and have done community services for at least 8 years in order to run for any elective position. To vote, you'd have to have graduated from a civic facultative class where you'd learn basic consequences in geopolitics and on national trends. Of course, these classes would be opened and free to everyone with civic interest.
This would I think, bring better governments, and above all: better, informed, votes.

maybe in walking in someone elses shoes for a moment ... it may encourage more empathy and compassion in people
