Turkeys made out of paper plates and construction paper and a glue stick...you make tail feathers, beak , etc from the construction paper and then let them color the plate brown. My kids liked it when they were little.

Quick Thanksgiving art project.......two of them

Either, have the kids paint, or you paint, their thumb and palm brown, then paint each finger a different color for the feathers. After this, place hand on card or construction paper and have them add eyes, beak, feet, and wattle(the red thing). THey could make a card or a picture for their parents/themselves.

Another is.....if you can get your hands on some leaves, you can make leaf turkeys. The leaf serves as the feathers. You will need to cut out, the turkey bodies, the beaks, and the wattles. They can glue the bodies (tape works better, for some reason the glue doesn't want to stick to the leaf...well, at least not glue sticks), wattle, and beaks on and add the eyes with a marker. They turn out pretty cute as well.

If you don't mind a little mess you can let the kids do turkey hand prints. Squirt a few different colors of paint in a plastic plate and get some heavy weight paper, glitter, sequins and or gyms and let the kids dip their hands in the paint put the hand print on the paper and decorate it up to be a fancy turkey. They can even make a whole family of them on their paper.

Once you've finished dressing your bird and just before you put it in the oven, let the kids have some fun (perhaps a little messy) painting the bird with soy sauce. Then put it in the oven. This will add some of that brownish-golden color a lot of turkeys don't get when done. Some hearty diners feel disappointed, even frustrated, when the turkey doesn't look like those beautiful ones we often see in TV commercials and in newspapers and magazines printed ads.

Let them attach assorted candies onto the sides of ice cream cones to make edible Indian teepees. A little icing sticks the candies on. No matter how the decorate them...a five year olds will be different than the three years old, but that's perfectly ok and encourages their own imagination...and you can tell them the story of the first Thanksgiving.

I'll go with the simple art crafts like: a slice of potato or okra that you dip in watercolor and then paint on a white bond paper or any kind of paper, elbow macaroni glued on illustration board and then painted different sizes of buttons or beads and glue to make a version of themselves old folders and cellophane paper to make 3d glasses/masks

Trace their hand and have them cut it out, it's easy to make it into a turkey! Or you can have them glue feathers to a circle. It's also fun to make a band with construction paper and have them decorate a piece of constuction paper cut out in the shape of a feather and then staple the band and feather into a band that goes around their head, instant Indian.

Hand turkeys are always a big hit!
Try feet turkeys too. Trace both bare feet then turn the toes opposite with big toes on the outsides and glue together, color and draw a head.
Have the children to free draw what he/she is thankful for.

Trace their hands with their fingers spread apart. That will be the feathers on the turkey. Cut it out and have the kids glue it together with cut outs of the turkey's head, feet, beak, red dangly-thing on it's mouth. The kids can color in the "feathers" or you can glitter glue them.
