Floyd Landis(innocent until proven guilty) will still be a contender depending on what team will be willing to sign him. The strongest team will be Disco if everyone makes it through the season. There are a lot of races between now and July. And the recent signing of Basso sets them up to return to the podium in the top spot for GC. Valverde is strong but I don't believe strong enough to beat out Basso. His day will come. Some dark horses are still Cadel Evans from down under and Alexandre Vinokourov who won La Vuelta. I believe Ulle's time has passed. And le TdF is not set up for his strengths this year. I was really excited last year to see if Basso could pull a double. But I am just hoping to see the top contenders get to race w/o all the speculation that surrounded last year's event.

The top contendors should be Ulrich or Basso. I would put my money on Basso as he will have the stronger team supporting. Also Discovery is pumped to win again after their dismal performance at this years Tour de France. While Jan has won it before it seems like Basso is well conditioned after the Giro every year and this will aide him for victory in the Tour.
And no Floyd Landis is not going to win- he will not be there.

How about Alejandro Valverde? He has a great team and will have learnt a lot from the Vuelta a Espana just gone. I think he may have the measure of Vinokourov this time. Also, he improves every year. The long lay off and the uncertainty of a new time may hurt Basso. Not sure about Ullrich, perhaps too old, no team yet and not as good a climber as the other favoutites.

id like to see ullrich pull out a victory. I think Basso has the best chance... vino isnt as consistent in the hills as basso is. Hard to tell though... Vinokurov hasn't had as much of a supportive team as Basso has. Vino attacks every chance he gets.. he rides for himself but he hasn't had a good team behind him yet. They're both good riders, but I think Basso has the overall win
