by practicing on a shoe that is NOT on his foot.

I learned using a process called bunny ears, but here is a link that will show you how with pics and all! I think I may keep this for future reference myself!

theres a spongebob episode and it has a song on it and thats a good way this is how it goes:
Wanna learn how to tie your shoe
It's a very easy thing to do
Just sit on down and I'll give you the scoop
What's that?
It's called the loop de loop
You gotta take a lace in each hand
You go over and under again
You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool
You go over and back
Left to right
Loop de loop, and you pull em tight
Like bunny ears or a Christmas bow
Lace em up and you're ready to go!
You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool
You make a loop de loop and pull
And your shoes are lookin' cool

Dont. Enjoy the experience of watching them figure it out and let them do it in their own time. Just sit facing the same way when you tie yours so they can see it and help them when they ask.
Solving problems builds thinking ability.
