The "documentary fee" is additional profit for the dealer. They say it is to cover the cost of doing the tag and title work, but that is a normal cost of doing business. It is sometimes called a processing fee, or some other name/
Dealers have figured out that the customer will fight about the price, and then will not question the additional fees, so they add them. If you refuse to pay it, before you take delivery, the dealer will usually remove it. If not, walk out!
Do not pay the garbage fees!

It's like a dealer markup except it's listed on the contract. If you make a big deal out of it they should waive it.
I don't mind paying it because in CA it's capped at $45 by law. But I've heard in other states it isn't capped so it's sometimes over $500. If that were the case here, I'd fight it.

Document Fee. It is just another way for a dealer to get another $250 out of your pocket.
Some places you can tell them to stuff it and they will take it off. In Vegas, if you refuse to pay it they tell you to go someplace else, and they ALL
charge you $300 so you are stuck paying it.
