I am from Ohio, and we usually go to Michigan, but like trying new ski resorts.

Devil's head is good, but I like Cascade(5 min further) a little more. Granite Peak in Wausau is nice. They just renovated the whole place and added a bunch of runs. If you're willing to take the drive, Lutsen in Minnesota is a pretty big place, I think the largest in the midwest.
Check out www.goski.com They list just about every resort in the country, as well as ones in other countries.

If you are willing to travel a little farther, Ski Brule is really great for families. It is in the upper half of Michigan in Iron River. They have great rates and also give you the chance to try different sports for free. Check it out! www.skibrule.com

This might be kind of far for you, but I always had a good time at Devils Head in Wisconsin, its about 45 miles N of Madison (great town) Plenty of stuff to do in the area and the beginner area is really good for kids.

in a good number of cases the first places to open contained in the west are Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski section. clearly, those places have the most snow for the duration of November(in a good number of cases). i trust those parts open round overdue October in a good number of cases and issues extremely get going round Thanksgiving.
