Please help, I'm normally pretty imaginative and creative, but this one has me stumped.

I have a AUS $15 budget and my present is for a male, early 30's, extremely expensive tastes, not really into novelty things, no discernable interests or hobbies, not sure of musical, reading or cinematic tastes....

I don't want to do a gift voucher or a bottle of wine, so if any of you guys can come up with some ideas I would be ever so grateful!

Cheers

He sounds nice and boring, so buy him a tie.

I was going to suggest a gift card or certificate to a book store or on line book store. This way he can pick what he likes.

Does he have any friends in the office? Can you ask discreetly what his interests are? You may get some ideas from that.

Have you been able to find anything out by looking at his desk? Do you see any family photos? Does he like letter openers? Maybe some nice desk supplies? (kind of boring, though).

Do you know if he likes sports? You can buy a t-shirt or something with his favorite team on it?

Do you know if he likes cooking? Anything cooking- like a basket with utensils and spices would be nice.

Set your spies off and find out! Otherwise, he gets a boring gift....

Why don't you like the bottle of wine idea? Personally, I'd get a gift voucher to the local movie theatre or a bookstore. He can go see a movie of his choice and have some popcorn or purchase some music or reading material..

You can get him one of those desk games. There are so many to choose from and you can find really nice ones for under 15.00. Most men like those anyway, especially those with extremely expensive tastes. For some reason, they think they look more sophisticated with these trinkets on their desks. Good luck.

Yikes; that's kind of difficult, especially if you can't do something like a gift certificate.

What about a bag of coffee that he likes (if you know what kind he drinks), or even a small gift basket with a mug, a bag of coffee and some other little coffee shop item?

There's always a small box of good quality chocolates like Godiva or something similar, as well. I think it's pretty neutral without being totally impersonal.

That's what's wrong with this whole concept --how the hell should you know what he'd like?

Dunno why you don't want to buy wine, but how about fancy nibblies -- everyone eats, after all. And if he doesn't like it, he can give it to someone else, and save himself having to buy them a gift.

You know, those silly fancy things with absurdly expensive food-like items.

Or how about a nice picture frame?

If there's something in budget that would be helpful at work, you could do that -- dunno what the two of you do for a living, so I can't say what.

A nice pen, perhaps? (Not sure what they cost, though.)

How about a coffee mug and a calendar? (together, I think they'd cost about right)

Make a variety of cookie doughs, package them nicely and put them in a unique basket or gift bag. Be sure to include the directions and that the dough can be frozen till the recipient is ready to bake.

This gift is good for male or female !!

If you know any of his interests how about a subscription to a magazine that he may enjoy or atleast related to the type of work you do (sent to him at the office, I suppose, if you don't know his home address). Or if he likes to drink coffee at work (does he?) than some samples of different types of coffees and a nice mug. If he is the studious type you can always pick him up a copy of the latest bestseller. Remember it is the thought that counts and all you can do is try.

Go to your most expensive department stores men's department and browse or ask the sales clerk for some ideas. Something as strange as a spare leather watch strap, cuff links, dress socks, lapel pin, etc may be in your budget. Your co-worker will at least like the store and can always exchange it later if it's not his taste.

Alternatively, if he's not attached, get him a blind lunch date with some one really pretty/hot. or if he's married, give him good chocolate ~ his wife will be able to eat them, make her happy, and thus he'll get some magambo later...

I've given you a link for an article on the subject of holiday gifts for co-workers.

Believe it or not, a tie is considered a personal gift. If you are not a personal friend of this gentleman, forgo the tie and opt for something a little less personal.

Wow that's a hard one!

I agree with others, ties are a little bit personal so avoid that. Perhaps something like a general new release book that would appeal to males?
