SORRY THIS IS LONG>
Before I start I want to say something, I'm looking at all of the related questions, and this is not a question f I am a bad owner because I didn't get my dogs spayed/neutered. I have a great dane mix, she is very skinny, she used to resemble an old fashioned keyhole. I just rescued a pittbull puppy and he was supossed to be nuetered the friday after halloween. She was standing for the male and they got stuck together, on halloween, and two days after. He got fixed the next day. They only got 'stuck' twice, but now her abdomen is straight up and down on either side as opposed to the curve she used to have. She's also been more agressive towards te other dogs when eating. The vet said it's too early to tell. Do you thnk that she's pregnant, OR, is it too soon for her to show anything, and there's somethng seriously wrong.

She wan't spayed because we planned to breed her because she was my sister's who passed away. We were going to breed her with another dane, and to everything we could to get her pregnant, then get her spayed if and when she had puppies. They would be a pretty mix, and I already have five gone on the chance that she is pregnant.

It is too early to tell. As for being a bad owner face facts you are. Why bring more mixed breed pups into the world when there are so many waiting for homes. You said they got stuck twice, well it sounds to me like you wanted her to get pregnant because okay maybe the first time you did not know any better, but after the first mistake precautions should have been taken if you really did not want to breed her. As for you wanting to breed her because they will be a pretty mix, does it occur to you that there are several pretty mixes at the shelters and pounds waiting for homes or waiting to be put to death because there are not enough homes. Also you say you already have 5 gone if she is pregnant , well I say good luck. Many times people say "oh I want one" and when the puppies come along and it is time to take the puppy home you watch and see how many excuses come up as to why they can not take the puppy. Even if they do take the puppy and let's say around 18 months (which is when people usually dump their dogs) are you going to be willing to take the puppies back or even help re-home them or are you going to say well it's not my problem? If you did not want to read these types of answers then you should not have posted a question here.
Stop being part of the problem and spay/neuter your pets!!!!

You'll be able to palpate her abdomen and feel puppies at approximately 4 weeks gestation. This is a very small window of time so mark it on your calandar. The fact that your dog tied with another two times means that it is likely that she is gestating.

Once you've determined that she is pregnant and have determined her whelp date (61 to 65 days post-breeding), you can start looking for a box that will be big enough for her to use as a whelping box. High, sturdy sides with a door cut out for her - lots of old blankets and rags.

Nature will take its course, but watch for signs of distress as her due date draws near. Have a plan in place to take her to your vet in the event that she has difficulties.

I want to commend you on getting your male neutered! It shows responsibility. It is possible to have her spayed at this time if you do not want to breed her at all - please check with your vet....
Hopefully you won't receive any rude or obnoxious answers to your question.

Finally - feed her seperately from the others. Food aggression is a difficult thing to combat, but you can start by seperating her.

Best of luck to you!!

I'm sorry people lectured you but they do have a point. Why wasn't she spayed? I mean I know you were going to get him fixed which is good but why wasn't she spayed? Go back to the vet in two weeks and have him/her check again. You may want to consider aborting the pups. This would be a very ugly mix and I don't think people would want a great dane/pitbull mix dog. I'm sorry.

I think you have to take the vets advice here, I'm sure that he would have picked up if she was seriously ill. It's sound as though she may be pregnant, all you can do is watch her. She may just be a little aggressive because there's a new dog in the house and she's protecting her turf.

If your dog was in heat at the time and they tied together, chances are very good that she's pregnant unless she's very young (under 18 months). But even being young isn't a guarantee she won't get pregnant. It just lessens the chance of it since their bodies aren't mature enough. Kind of like a teenager getting pregnant. They're bodies aren't fully developed and they oftentimes have miscarriages because of it.

My honest opinion is that if your dog was in her second week of estrus, then yes, she's most likely pregnant.

If she was stuck with another dog, then I'd say it's almost positive she is pregnant. Pregnant dogs do seem to get aggressive with food and want more than usual amounts.

the vet can spey her if she is pregnant. Otherwise she may not of been ovulating, if she is then birth will be exactly 63 days after ovulation. The vet should tell you when it would be possible to do tests like ultrasound and x-rays
