The Old Testament indeed mentions polygamous marriage, but as the Old Testament is largely viewed as a history of the Jewish people, (Jesus was a Jew) and a collection of prophecies, it is not the 'rule book' by which Christians live their lives. The New Testament starts with a brief account of the Creation, as it was perceived at the time, and then goes on to recount the life of Jesus in the Gospels, and the early days of Christianity in the Books which follow. It is from the life of Christ and his teachings , and the advice given by his followers in the later Books, that true Christians take the inspiration for the way they try to live their lives. Polygamy was definitely NOT approved of (though it is referred to, as many people early Christians came into contact with may have been polygamous).and still isn't by most Christian groups. It would be interesting to hear from a Mormon answerer as I can only speak from my own perspective and I may have missed something.

honestly no. From creation Adam and Eve, the first marriage were monogomous The statement of God at the starting up replaced into "both will be a million flesh" not "the N-tuple will be a million flesh" numerically speaking. And contained in the recent testomony look to the requirments for elders "the husband of one spouse" really a one woman variety of guy as extra the Christian perfect. God allowed polygomy, yet there have been not any genuine satisfied examples of it operating tremendous contained in the Bible. there have been extra thoughts of rigidity and rivalries between better halves. besides the undeniable fact that the tale doesn't end... so in a experience sure and no... marriage is a small hint of what's to go back in heaven between Christ and the Bride of Christ it really is the church as a collection. it really is extra the most suitable marriage into the a lengthy time period of the a lengthy time period. then you will extremely be able to assert ultimately "and they lived fortunately ever after"

Polygamy is against the law, and the Bible tells us to obey the law. The Bible has polygamous marriages and monogamous ones. It doesn't really say which one is better.

I don't think you will find one verse where the Bible speaks favorably on this practice. It happened, and the Bible recorded it as history. It is interesting that when this was the case with the Israelites, it usually ended up bad. I know you will not find one verse in the New Testament where it is approved of or encouraged.

Polygamy has fallen out of favor for cultures now. Western culture looks down on it and it is also not practical now i this time. Thousands of years ago and in war times men were scarce, so some women were single unless they became a second or third wife. Now girls don't care if they ever get married, they just sleep around.

You obviously haven't studied the Bible very much. Let me help you, brother.
1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Tts 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
I Cr 13;8a, Love never fails!!!!!

Seriously, any man who wants more than one wife is headed for the looney bin.
Could I get an Amen to that?

Hmmm... 'Western' values?
It should be noted men are polygamous in nature, even if it's just in his mind, as Jesus implied.
Polygamy is not viewed highly by the Roman goverment, but Romans don't min mistresses.
'A wife' is not 'one wife'.
Today if the world is compared to a Nimitz class aircraft, then it's crewed by less than one crewman, in comparison of the usual a couple of thousands. Today, the whole word is deserted.

The Bible talks about polygamy, it never approves of it. God apparently decided it wasn't worth dealing with at the time, as there were other issues. However, it's clear that God's will is that we have only one spouse at a time.

Well actually that was only approved of in the Old testament when the world needed to be populated. Now the world is plenty populated so that allowance of polygamy is no longer necessary.
