If there's a medical oncologist reading this, here's the remainder of that CT scan: "A large lytic lesion is seen in the sternum with lobulated soft tissue components in the deep subcutaneous soft tissues as well as in the prevascular space. The soft tissue components appear to infiltrate the adjacent segments of the right pectoral and intercostal muscles. This is accompanied by prominent lymph nodes in the prevascular space, right internal mammary chain and right cardiophrenic space."

From what you wrote it sounds like a lymphoma type cancer or breast cancer that has spread to the lymph nodes and to the soft tissues which attach to the sternum but not inside the bone itself which is a good thing.
I can't give you the odds of living because I don't know her full history with cancer, family history, health issues she might have, how long since she noticed this, if it's the first test, etc. But I can tell you that people are living with cancer like people live with asthma or diabetes.
It sounds like she would need chemo and radiation to shrink the masses, then surgery to remove what they can, then more chemo and radiation, then physical therapy. If they remove the lymph nodes which it sounds like they would be thinking of that, she probably would have a good chance to develop lymphedema, which in that case, I can help you with those issues but the first issue is cancer treatments. What does her doctor suggest?
I'm a cancer survivor and believe me if I got the diagnosis she did, I would opt for heavy duty chemo, radiation prior to surgery, then surgery for them to take out what they can, then more chemo and radiation and kill the stuff off, then you have to monitor things. Has she had a PET scan? I would say with the involvement of soft tissues, lymph nodes, she needs one to be sure it hasn't spread anywhere else unnoticed.
Her odds aren't lost with the right treatment, she needs to keep a positive attitude and you need to show her alot of support because I imagine she is afraid, depressed, and worried about the odds and treatments and how she is gonna feel.

Chemo, radiation, surgery. The three big guns to your type of cancer. It sounds like your in it for the long hall. Although I am not a physician, I have had experience working in Oncology. Death is not imminent. You HAVE to develop a better attitude towards it to help fight the cancer. That is a large part of the recovery process. I know when anyone hears the "C" word, death is the first thing that comes to mind, but, trust me when I say, there is hope for you. Diet, of course, with healthy foods, some exercises. Take a look at alternative medications as well. I wish you good luck!!!!!!

First of all, you have to believe there is the perfect job for you out there. You just have to attract it to you. You have to visualize what is the perfect job you want, that is compatible with your taking care of your mom and doesn't stress you out so much. Concentrate your energies in telling yourself you deserve to work with amazing people and be well paid for that. When you have a hunch of something that sounds right to do, don't doubt, just act on it. The whole Existence is so abundant and ready to give you so many things and offer you all the chances you need. Just turn yourself to it.

I am so sorry this happened to you.
My uncle had cancer and lost the battle with Melanoma last August. He was fine until they did a needle biopsy, which we believe spread the cancer. (he didn't start getting sicker till this) There is even warnings against this procedure..but THEY mostly dont want you to know that.
I dont know what your beliefs are as far as nutrition, radiation goes, but visit Health stores that sell Vitamins and such for making living easier. People have beat cancer without radiation and needle biopsies. Make sure you try EVERYTHING before doing something that can potentially kill you.
Research everything, including what the doctors say as much as you can....
