I have asked a question here about vivitar cameras before and never got a response. I'm trying again. I am in the market for a new camera and was wondering if anyone has any personal experiences with Vivitar ones and would be able to offer any information on how well they work? I think the one my husband mentioned is a vivitar 4100? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Vivitar doesn't make its own cameras. Instead, it rebrands models from 2nd and 3rd tier manufacturers. Usually these manufacturers are based in Taiwan, mainland China, etc. And these cameras aren't often submitted for reviews, so it's hard to get any meaningful information on them.

This doesn't mean they are bad cameras, some are quite good. But the problem is that the buyer is pretty much on his/her own when it comes to deciding to buy or not.

Basically, I would suggest that if you get a good price that is significantly lower than an equivalent 'name brand' camera and you are willing to take a bit of a chance, go ahead and buy it. I doubt you will get a BAD camera, and it might be very good.

On the other hand, if the Vivitar price is close to the name brand price, I would probably suggest going with the name brand. Like the old saying, 'Better the devil you know than the devil you don't know'.

Go to www.dpreview.com and you can research cameras for yourself.
In my opinion, there are many better choices than Vivitar. Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Fuji to name a few.
I did have a Vivitar flash a few years back that was OK. But I've never seen a Vivitar camera that I was impressed with in film. No experience with Vivitar in digital, though.
Good luck!

some years in the past, there have been some Vivitar products that mutually as no longer desirable-of-the-line, have been a minimum of extremely good. yet those days are long long previous. while you're searching for a mid-high quality compact digicam, there are literally dozens of producers to chosen from. Vivitar has apparently chosen to grow to be the king of the cheap cameras. in spite of everything, there's no longer as plenty opposition in that marketplace section. They probably do ok revenues-clever. somebody is often searching for the main inexpensive, and if Vivitar can sell 4 $50 cameras for each $2 hundred digicam that Nikon or Canon sells, they're probably making stable earnings. that's the comparable reason we've WalMart, wide-unfold shop producers, and TaTa automobiles. some human beings only prefer much less costly.

I have a Vivitar (It is still packed somewhere so I don't remember the model). Perfectly good camera and a good price, I've had mine 10 years with no problems, even though it got soaked once.
