What is a perm?
How do i get one?
How long does it last?
Because the hair on my sides sticks out, will a perm make it dtay down?
If not, what other solutions are there to do so?

A perm is a chemical treatment that changes the shape of your hair permanently, e.g. makes straight hair curly, etc. It only changes the shape of existing hair; it does not make your hair follicles pump out hair in the new texture.
You can get one at the beauty salon (or you can buy one at a drug store, although that is a VERY BAD IDEA.)
It lasts forever - well, until you cut the permed hair off. It can relax a little bit after a couple of months, but it will still be there.
A perm could theoretically curl the sides of your hair down, yes. But as it grew out, the new hair growth would stick out again.
Better solutions: paste it down with gel or hairspray; cut it short so the hairs are too short to stick out noticeably; grow it long so the hair lays flat under its own weight.

Perm is short for 'permanent wave'. You get it at a hair salon and it makes your hair wavy or if it is a strong perm - very curly. It can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 12 months, depending on your hair type. Ask the hairdresser for his/her opinion for keeping sticking out bits down. Usually though it's just the type of hair you have. You could try gel.

I got a perm once. I t i s supposed to last about 3 to 4 months. Any place will do it I think. I'm not sure about your hair though. My hair was straight and now it is wavy. I got it done like a year ago.

A perm curls and a relaxer straightens. I really dont know if either will keep your side down, tha all depents on the lenth and texture of your hair, and what kind of style you have.
