My five year old boy has recently started pulling down his pants and showing his privates both front and back to people. Is this normal? My daughter never did things like that and I am concerned that maybe he is picking things up from other boys at daycare? Thanks for your answers.

I think its pretty much the same concept as little kids beginning to "play with themselves". I think they just get fascinated with it. Just let him know that it is not okay to do that. He will eventually get over it and move on to something else

He probably is picking it up from other boys, but the best thing you can do is ignore it. Just say "Please don't do that" and then ignore it. If you make a big deal out of it then he will do it for attention. My nephew who stayed with me before he started school, would pull his pants down and flick his penis with his thumb. I just said "please stop that", just like I would if he was making too much noise or banging on the furniture. His mother on the other hand would give him a long lecture on the proper way to behave and the reasons why you do not pull your pants down in public and what is acceptable, etc. He quit doing it at my house, but continued to do it in front of his mother because he always got a reaction from her. Better to just ignore it. They might be small boys, but they are future men and like all men they are fascinated with their privates. LOL...

kids do all sorts of things - parents teach them the right way to act.

day care for kids before age 5 is pretty damaging to a kid's emotional well-being, intellect, and attachment to family. but unless he won't take the simple instruction that this behavior is just not appropriate, this is probably nothing major. if it's part of a broader series of behaviors and if he is not willing to just hear you once that it is inappropriate, and stop, then day care has likely taken it's toll and him and there will be much to deal with.

Well, its not normal. Of course, alot of things that five year olds do aren't considered normal.
He most likely picked it up from boys at day care. It will probably pass.

That doesn't sound normal to me! Kids shouldn't be doing that at a daycare, at that age. If that were the case, you should find a new daycare.

Normal, my oldest son thought it was hillarious, my second son would die if anyone say his privates, and my daughter takes her clothes off anywhere. You just have to explain to them that, it is not funny and very bad behavior. I used to send them to their room until they decided to keep their clothes on, and they could be as naked as they pleased in their room ALONE. It worked real fast.
