PLEASE PLEASE, Do not give the dog Mineral Oil. It robs their body of nutrients. It destroys the nutrients. It is a lipid solvent that absorbs many substances and interferes with normal absorption of nutrients-vitamin A,D,E,K, Beta Carotene, Calcium phosporus, potassium. I have seen drastic results, in a dog for using mineral oil. A dog went blind shortly after several months .
INSTEAD< for constipation, in dogs, use lots of fiber mixed in his/her food. Like rice, cereal, ecspecially oatmeal. Oatmeal is a good source of fiber. Even chop up some fruit.,apples,cantaloupe,raisins,. Use less can food and more dry food. If you use oil, only use , an oil type for salads. Like safflower oil, Canola oil, Never mineral oil. Where did you hear that? Please do a search on the internet about mineral oil!! And see what effect it really has! MINERAL OIL IS BAD STUFF !!!

Mineral Oil For Dogs

You can give him mineral oil. I would do about a teaspoon. I've used mineral oil with bottle fed puppies/kittens and they use about 1/4-1/2 a teaspoon per feeding. You could also try feeding him some canned pumpkin if you have that around (good fiber source). I would certainly take him the vet as well, but in the meantime you can try those things.

Constipation can be caused by a number of things including an obstructed bowel. Giving a dog a laxative before a vet has examined it, and recommended to do so could kill it if it had a bowel obstruction.

I would give about a teaspoon, but don't put it directly in the dog's mouth, because if he inhales any of it,he will get aspiration pneumonia, which can be fatal. You can try putting it in some canned dog food. Also try adding some fiber(Cereal, veggies)to his diet, and make sure he drinks enough and gets enough exercise. You can also use infant glycerin suppositories for dogs.

Give him pumpkin, just make sure it is not the spiced variety. Full of fiber and dogs love it.
