My brother, who we adopted, had been abused. Everyone in our family knows this and is careful to make sure we don't take him down the wrong path. Today I realized that my uncle hit him two or three times in the past TWO DAYS!! Then today he hit him for no reason while he was READING A BOOK! He just grabbed the book, took it, and whacked him in the eye, saying, "You don't deserve to be reading this." No-one was in the room but me (and I wasn't exactly in the room.)

What should I do? The poor kid is already scared of everything and everyone - I'm lucky if I can get four sentances in a day out of him.

HELP!

You seem to be the one he could trust! Get close to him little by little and if possible talk to your uncle! The poor child does not deserve this treatment after what he has been through.
If he will not get help (TALK to somebody who really is on his side, or get somebody to talk to your uncle) he will probably repeat all the bad things that has happened to him when he gets older. NOW is the time to help him; whether it will be you or somebody else. perhaps recommended by you. Just DO something. You seem to be a good person!

Uncle needs to have a talking to. NO ONE should ever hit a child for no reason. And telling a child they don't deserve to be reading a book?!? Unless the child was being punished and wasn't supposed to be reading, uncle is guilty of verbal abuse too.

Keep that $^&%&^ away from the kid.

TELL YOUR PARENTS RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This kid does not deserve that kind of treatment and you know it. If your parents will not do anything than you need to call the police. It is up to you to protect this child from more abuse. It is up to you because you saw it happen. I know you are young too but you have had the advantage of a mom and dad who do not abuse you. You are not afraid and maybe through a lot of love and time you can teach your brother to not be afraid. It would be one of the greatest things you would ever do.

I don't think that is good to smack the kid like that. It is not his fought he is here. Try talking to your Uncle and ask him if he felt bad for smacking the kid. Tell him that he should take it easy with the child. If you feel uncomfortable talking to your Uncle then ask an adult to do so.

why not tell your parents what your uncle is doing? i would have said it right then and there out loud so that everyone could have heard me. but, beings that you didn't do that you need to walk away from this computer right now and go tell your parents.this way they can tell your uncle that he is no longer welcome in the home.so, what are you still doing here? GO!!!
