k so it's a 94 lincoln continental just replaced the alterneter took it for a drive now car will not shut off(had to stall it), lights on dash stay on even with no key and will not start using key. with good battery i can start the car by shorting out my magneto with a wrench anyone got any ideas of what is doing this.

the ignition switch propably went out. it should be in the steering culumn. it might be stuck or loose. check it out

You did something wrong. Sounds like you melted the key switch into the on posision. If this is the case, you need to change the switch not the key. Most people think that where you put the key is where the switch is. This is not true, That is the key tumblers, not the switch.
Second That thing you call a magneto is a solonied. Not a magneto.
It is what engages the starter to start the car.

Your solenoid is bad. Check your ground wire to the fender that grounds your battery, if it is not connected it can cause all kinds of problems. But the more likely cause is the solenoid and you need a new one.

You may have a fused battery wire or soleniod in starter or fender well type..

sounds like your starter solinoid has a short . did you have this problem before you replaced the alternator?
