The scientific term for migrating birds is Migratory. This includes such birds as swifts, swallows, martins, thrushes, Hobby's, saker falcons, gyr falcons occasionally peregrine falcons and many many more. The reason birds migrate is thus. Swallows migrate to Africa in the winter because there are no insects left in England to feed off and it is too cold to survive our harsh winters, Hobby's migrate to Africa following the swallows because the hobby preys upon the swallows and there are no dragon flies (another hobby food base) for them to eat in this country in the winter. The swallows then return to England because the weather gets too hot in Africa for them to bear, Water dries up, insects die etc, and the hobby's follow them.
