paging is a broadcast service. The pager displays the message if the ID of the message matches the paging device. Pagers are purely receivers.
Messaging is a cell-phone concept. phones are two way devices

you don't get a full message with paging you have to call the number back unless you know the number and why its paging you and you cant message back in a page

Paging means letting someone know that they should contact you.
Messaging means that you send them the full text of a message so that they receive it directly, without needing to make contact back to you.
