People are just rude and impatient when it comes to people that are handicapped. My advice would be to go with him when he goes out and stick up for him and let them know that they are being rude. Unfortunately not all people will be so understanding. You cant really change the way people act towards him even if you explain. Just make sure he always goes with someone to protect him from further abuse. People should be more understanding.

I've had many patients with these problems. People are usually disturbed by individuals with facial deformities and impaired speech, besides just being impatient. I typically taught my patients to raise their hand in a gesture that the listener would interpret as "stop" or "wait". That usually works to get folks to slow down and pay attention.
The International Association of Laryngectomees has a card that a patient can show to people explaining about the speech problem. Ask his speech pathologist or ENT to set him up.

Some people are basically ignorant, and others think they are being help-full, just try and encourage him to see past the rude people and get a positive attitude on life, after all he is still with you and that is a miracle.

They are trying to make it easier on him. It must be tough to speak, so why not try to make it easier?

For him, you need to take him to a psychologist. All of this behavior TOWARD him has to be wearing him down.
