We are amalgamating three (3) parishes and will build one new church to accommodate all three congregations. What should the new parish provide for seniors?

If you have deep pockets, a drop-in senior center that will provide an exercise center and daily activities (bingo, tai chi, scrabble, etc.). Also you could include weekly specials within the senior center by bringing in lecturers and guest speakers on elder affairs, estate planning, living with Alzheimers, blood pressure clinics (if you have a parish nurse).

Again, if you have a big budget, the possibilities are endless, but I hope you can get some good ideas from these.

Same thing that is important now, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. In the material world though, a really good sound system so they do not have to strain to hear and also a close spot where the infirm may receive Communion without alot of hoopla. If there is going to be a seperate Adoration Chapel, some really comfortable chairs for the old bones are a must too.

Ask the sophomores.

Sorry. Long day at the Altar.

A place to go during the day. Pets...let people bring their pets...especially dogs. It makes older folks feel alive.

Make a regular time and place where kids - especially HS age kids - can come and ask older members questions....helps give the seniors a purpose...and wisdom gets imparted to the kids.

Getting a theater-group (call it the St. Genesius Players) together is a lot of fun. You'd be surprised at the talent!

I suggest you poll the parishioners of the three parishes to be merged. They will give you much better answers than we can.

With love in Christ.
