I have worn contacts, and found them to be most comfortable. You cannot tell they are in there and with a little practice can get the hang of easily putting them in. I used to feel the same way, thinking I would never be able to touch my eye. Also just to let you know, my Grandmother started wearing contacts around 65 and to my knowledge never had aproblem. She is now 71. I think you will do fine.

Hi I wear contacts a couple of days a week and my glasses the rest of the time. I feel it gives my eyes time to "breathe", but when they are in I cannot feel them. You Will get used to them.
It's a nice change as well if you are going out somewhere and put them in for your night out. Feels to me like part of the dressing up process.
I only find it difficult near the end of the night if I'm getting tired, or if the room/bar I'm in is really smokey and then can't wait to get home and remove them.
Do try it - as I said it can make you feel good/different to how you'd normally feel at work.
I've looked into laser surgery as well but cannot have it as I suffer from Crohns, but would have laser surgery tomorrow if I could.
Your opticians will probably have leaflets on all the different types of lenses (and what type would suit you) and also most have literature on Laser Surgery now listing the conditions that can stop you having the surgery.
Hope this is of some help.
Good luck

I've been wearing contacts for about 4 years.
They are really easy to put in, believe me I'm squeamish too, but after a couple of times you don't even think about it. Taking them out is a bit bleurgh, but again, if I can manage (really, I'm a baby) then I'm sure you'll be fine.
I get a bit of stinging when I first put them in, but it only lasts a few seconds, and most people I speak to don't, I just have stupidly sensitive eyes. It's much better since I switched to daily ones rather than the monthly kind with all the solution and stuff. It's worth it though.
After they're in, you don't feel them at all. They might start to irritate you a bit only when you've had them in for the maximum amount of time (mine are 12 hours).
Hope this helps!

I have worn soft contact daily lenses since I was 16. I remember a slight period of adjustment when I first started wearing them. I think my eye doctor recommended that I wear them only for a couple of hours at a time then gradually build up to wearing them for the whole day. It really doesn't take that long to get useed to them. The only time you notice they are in your eyes are when your eyes dry out or you get something in your eye. The only thing I've noticed as I get older is that I can't leave the contacts in for longer than 8 hours because my eyes keep drying out. So, I normally purchase contacts and glasses. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I have been wearing them for 12 years and have had no real problems.
The first few days you wear them you can feel them in your eyes but its not irritating, you are just aware of them being there, that goes away after a few days and you cant feel them at all.
It took me about a week to get used to putting them in but once you get the hang of it, its no problem. The optician will show you how to put them in the first time.
I find them a lot better than glasses as you have all round vision whereas with specs, you cant look to the side and see properly.

Don't be squeamish - it's very 'natural' feeling after a little while. It's all in the mind and you can control that.
Regarding feeling - sometimes yes, towards the end of the day, you can feel when you blink (depending on whether they are hard or soft too). They can cause problems, but they can be a God-send too. Try them out. You can get disposable soft ones and they are very comfortable and easy to deal with.

I've had contacts for over 40 years. I started at the hard lenses, and moved to soft lenses when they became available. I have the kind you take out daily, but throw away every 2 weeks.
There is an adjustment period, but very easy to get used to. Nothing like the olden days when I started out.
They actually feel good as soon as you put them in, as they kind of 'grab' your eye. (Suction) Good luck. Nothing to worry about.

It takes some getting used to before you can put them in and take them out like a pro. The other part is that sometimes they can be uncomfortable. My doctor switched brands and the new ones don't hurt at all. So, if you're having trouble with your first pairs, ask about switching brands or types.
They're easy to fit, easy to wear, and you'll get over the squeamishness in no time.

Well it is initially difficult to get used to them, and I had a fight of mind over matter trying to get them in my eye.
However after the first few sessions I was completely used to it, and now when I wear them I am barely aware of this fact.
But I don't routinely wear them because glasses are so convenient.
