When debts are paid, they are paid. But if you go out and borrow more, then there is new debt. Jesus died for our sins - those we have done in the past and those we INADVERTENTLY commit. (Father forgive them for they KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO". If we accept faith, then we must live our lives according to the ten commandments. If we feel we have been forgoven and then go about life hurting others, or stealing or ..., then we are creating new sins with full knowledge and intent - totally a different matter, and these sins must be atoned for whether through confession, repentance and then living a better life, or repaying debt, or ASKING FORGIVENESS and meaning it.

It is both forgiveness of sin, so mankind can be recoinciled to the Father, and a paid debt in our behalf, because as flawed humans, we can NEVER offer anything that is worthy to the Father., so God sent His only Son to take upon Himself all the sins of mankind, and defeat death, which is the resulut of sin, by rising on the third day after His death.

Despite what most people think...jesus did not die for our sins. He never said he did. the only one who says it is the self-procalimed apostole Paul. And Paul never knew or met jesus...and didn't even really get along with the real Apostles. but, i don't expect you or anyone to believe this. If jesus died for our sins...did it make sense for us to be forgiven too...of course not..and for jesus to say god why have you forsaken me on the cross. jesus came to spread the good news....that we can enter the kingdom of god through the word of god. and the word through jesus was going to do this by fullfilling the law and the prophets....making it better by teaching people that the act of following the commandments is fullfilled by your heart and deed and not just the deed, as was the old testament teaching. thats why the two commandments of love god and neighbor were his top priorites...anyway....i think this should get me quit a bit if thumbs down......so to answer your question.....it doesn't make sense that jesus paid and forgives is for the reason i explained....the rest of the people here will try to explain the contradiction the way they know how.

Paid and forgiven are two different things. Yes Jesus paid for the sin of mankind however we still have to repent and turn from that sin in order to be forgiven.

it's pretty interesting that Jesus "pays for our sins." Who is Jesus paying? Himself? He is God as described by the trinity, right? The whole concept of Jesus paying for our sins is retarded. Under Christian standards, all you gotta do in life is ask Jesus for forgiveness and you'll get into heaven, so if you live your life helping humanity or being adolf hiter, you will have the same spot in heaven.

If someone comes along and pays the debt on your behalf, you now owe that person $100 instead of the first person.

No.
You should probably pay the person that paid it on your behalf.
That would be the right/good thing to do.
Strangely I'm not religious but my answer appears to agree with their view. I was looking at it from strictly a money point of view too.

Yes you are forgiven - He forgave you when he paid for your sins (if you have accepted His free gift of salvation and repented - turned away from sin).
