Mammography is the most effective way of detecting breast cancer early. The American Cancer Society recommends mammogram screening every year for all women age 40 and older. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) recommends mammogram screening every 1-2 years for women age 40 and older. For those with risk factors, including a close family member with the disease, annual mammograms should begin 10 years earlier than the age at which the relative was diagnosed.
Please see the webpages for more details on Mammography.

It's quite difficult to tell by just feeling it physically. It needs to be biochemically tested. Therefore you will need to see your doctor / nurse who will refer to a breast clinic and the sister there would usually take insert a needle (not very painful) into the lump area and send the sample off. If there is a need, they would usually, surgically remove it first, and then examine whether it is cancerous or not. The issue is, usually, they would still want to remove it in case the benign lump turns aggresive, i.e, the cells could change into forming a malignant lump, therefore it is removed to be on the safe side. But also, your lump could just be a cyst. Check with your doctor, or if it's a he, and you feel uncomfortable, go to the nurse, many are trained to deal with these issues nowadays. Take care. Wish you well.

Any lumpy area, especially in the breast area should be examined by a doctor. There is no way to determine if it is cancerous or not without proper medical attention. Good luck, sounds like you've had more than your share already.

the problem with lumps is its hard to know how long they have been there before they come to the surface. It is always wisest to get a breast lump checked out. not all cancerous lumps are mobile (moveable)- depends on where it is situated. With your young age, it could be something as simple as a blocked milk duct or a simple cyst. It would be very wise to see your doctor soon.

The only way to know for sure is to go see a doctor. It is not neccesarilly cancer.
It could be an inflamation- if it is red, swollen, hot.
If the skin has "an orange" appearance, or the nipple is retracted then it may be cancer.

i'm sorry for you. you are too young for all this! the best advice is to go to your doctor. i've heard also if it can move etc. i've had cancer twice. in 2000 i had breast cancer and in 2004 i had lung cancer. both operations went fine. but i would not wait. get it over with. hope it's benign. have someone with you. better safe then sorry. take care don't be scared. you are in my prayers. betty boop

one you need to make absolutely sure whether it is or isn't you need to see a professional. they will probably recommend a biopsy which isn't a big deal anymore but i would advise you strongly to make an appointment and make sure. no one on here really knows for sure and as to if it moves or is hard is not necessarily a proven fact, only a biopsy or professional can tell you that. don't risk your life over a guess.
