Your question is decidedly ambiguous and vague and most likely an attempt to incite virulent responses from religious people.
So, I will answer you plainly:
Religion is what we turn to when we have everything else we need and there still seems to be something missing.
Religion is a warm place to bask in the glow of God with your fellow human beings because God loves to show up at sincere gatherings in His name and bless people. I've seen it happen.
You're probably a liberal, so I'll quote Marx, "Religion is the opiate of the masses." I hear that quoted a lot by left wingers. Is that so bad? What's an opiate for? Painkiller. Euphoria. Yeah, I do appreciate the therapeutic nature of religion.
If religion is wrong, what's the harm? If it's right...well, I think you know the answer to that. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be asking this question. Find God. You need Him. We all need Him.

no, without religion we wouldn't know there were other alternatives. However one looks at religion, it does allow change to occure as long as the religion is not government mandated, like Iraqs is, or Englands was.

Religion is not a method; it is a way of life.

No, I think our salvation is in an agnostic belief about things. If we strive to be an honest and credible people, then we need to acknowledge that we don't know a thing when we don't. If not enough proof is given either way, then why is it so bad to admit that we do not know a thing when we really don't?

only if you use religion as a crutch, not as a tool.
Beleif, skepticism, and suspension of disbelief (which is very different than the 1st two) are three important tools. Each have their uses.
Blessed be.

Mav have to disagree with you. Religion is what's right, regardless of what we've tried on our own.

Sometimes we come to God when everything else fails, however with God is salvation, peace and joy. Any other way is just heartache.
