Is this guy interested or just being nosey?

I have recently met this guy in school but I hardly know him enough to know whether I like him yet. We do seem to have some physical chemistry though. Well, one day out of the blue, he asked me if someone was my boyfriend. I told him no but I didn't hint that I was single either. Since then, he doesn't really talk to me much. What does it mean?

I think he was interested in you. I think he was "testing the waters," to see how you would respond. I guess he read your answer in such a way that he felt you were not "available," and he's backed off.
