(I have seen many dogs and cats in the shelters and this makes me sad. I am wondering why take a pet if you can not care for them. I gave away my two fish because I was afraid that they might die... because of something I might do wrong... I know we try our best wth all our pets.. I think we buys them because we love them... and appreciate creation in a way, but when we can no longer care for them, is it better to give them away?)

I guess my question is does your religion say anything about animal cruelty at all?

Respectfully,
Muslimah

Unfortunately I am just too scared with snakes I can't even say "HI' to them since they will "Hiss" back :):) I don't kill or hunt them, but I feel better sleeping without having them as pets in the house!
I'd love to have all tame animals as pets, no matter what any religion says about it. If your religion says that animals are also God's creation then that should tell you how we should treat them.
There were quite a few stories in the Old Testament when God asked for animal sacrifice, but this was then His will and were not done in such disgusting way as animal slaughtering these days.
True, we kill animals to eat, just like the hungry beasts in the wild will hunt us down as food if we are ever in their area.
But animal slaughtering is nothing like it and it disgusts me.
Thank you for being so caring for your pets. If I were you, I would give the pets away to humane society or someone you can trust will not harm them.

Yes, the Bible says that animals were placed in the care of man, and we are to protect and care for them--but they are not equal to any human.

I find it sad though, that animals are treated as greater to humans every day, and people don't even realize it. If someone were to go inside a tiger mother and brutally kill the cubs she was carrying, people everywhere would be outraged, and it would be on the news everywhere. Sadly, this happens everyday to millions of human babies, and many don't even care. People condone this horrible behavior! There even people that kill babies for a living!

If I have to make choice to save animals or humans, I think I'll pick saving the humans, who have an immortal soul created in the image and likeness of God. Abortion will never cease, but at the very least, we can do all we can to end this horrible and LEGAL practice. No matter their religion people who believe in the one, true God should work to preserve the dignity of the human person.

Yes, animal cruelty is very wrong, but I must say that it in no way breaks my heart as much as seeing an innocent human baby murdered.

I have three. Just because we are not of your religion does not mean we are cruel to animals! Most of us love our animals! If you read in the Holy Bible it tells where Noah took every animal species in the world into the Ark. Pets are in the animal shelter because people were kind enough to take them there when they could no longer keep them at home. Sometimes it is really hard to find a home for all animals. The shelter provides food and shelter for them and gives people a chance to adopt them. This is not a terrible place of torture for animals. A person who just kicks their animals out in the street with no shelter is the cruel one, not one who takes them to the shelter. If you are so sad seeing the animals in the shelter, why not buy a big piece of property and adopt them all!

In may religion, all living things are to be treated with kindness. All of my pets have died of old age, with the exception of two, and one was killed in a fight (that I could do nothing about) and the other died of illness--with the best Vet care.

I have never had to give a pet away, so I cannot answer this.

In Islam, a man won't go to hell and will go straight to heaven because he gave a thirsty dog some water and it's important to look after animals and treat them well as they have feelings and sense pain. However,I see there's nothing wrong in giving away a couple of fish because u dunno how to look after them.u can have a cat or something and treat animals well but that doesn't mean that u go and adopt every single homeless animal that u come across:)

If the religon teaches that God made humans responsible for animals, then yes it does. I am sure Christainity, Judaism and maybe even Islam have these teachings, if the creation stories are similar enough.

The Mosaic Law allows for animals to be cared for(fed ,sheltered, rested, etc.)but not to be on the same or above the level of people. I'm glad you love animals. So do I.

We are not to torture animals! That's what islam tells us. A person who feeds an animal is a blessed person indeed.

Its ok to give them to shelters, at least they're not in the street.Hey, my country doesn't even have shelters for pets, so say Alhamdo Lellah ..... at least you have a place to send them

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

2416 Animals are God's creatures. He surrounds them with his providential care. By their mere existence they bless him and give him glory. 197 Thus men owe them kindness. We should recall the gentleness with which saints like St. Francis of Assisi or St. Philip Neri treated animals.

2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image. 198 Hence it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human lives.

2418 It is contrary to human dignity to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly. It is likewise unworthy to spend money on them that should as a priority go to the relief of human misery. One can love animals; one should not direct to them the affection due only to persons.

2457 Animals are entrusted to man's stewardship; he must show them kindness. They may be used to serve the just satisfaction of man's needs.

Muslims are even encouraged to be kind to animals and forbidden to hurt them. Islamic prophet Muhammed (pbuh) said: "There is a reward for kindness to every living thing." Al-Bukhari #2466
