For me, it's Abigail Adams. Even back in 1776, she was fighting for equality for women in what was a fledgling country. Her letters to John Adams, one of my forebears, were sharp, enlightened, and never whiny or pleading. Here's a link, so anyone who doesn't know her can get an idea of who she was.

Umm, I'm a little embarrassed but I don't read historical stuff. I mean I remember people from school and the biography channel and history channel, I just don't follow them as a guide to my life. I'm too different from my family members as I took a different path (joined the Navy, and traveled) then they did.
So I'm totally my own unique weirdness.
Well, I remember the 2 commanments that Jesus gave us, but I don't identify being the son of GOD - I'm weird not crazy.

I like Martin Luther because he challenged the teachings of the church, and confronted them with Scripture. He changed the world and is a hero.

in history? Gandhi. He led for liberation through peace, and tried (albeit unsuccesfully) to find unity between a people divided by religion.

I've never identified with any which is probably related to my views as an agnostic.
Edit: I admire a few but I don't identify with them.

Cool question. I most identify with... Garibaldi! Because he unified Italy then went straight back to his macaroni and his wife!
Nah, I dunno, I'd have to have a LOOOONG think about it!
Hope other people are more inspired!
