Where I live a lot of stores have a tree and the children or you (I guess they would let you enter their information) can put their names/some I.D. on the tree. They usually have the child list 2-3 things they want and people will pick their card, buy the gift and wrap, then return to the store and they see that the child receive the gift. I think it a good thing, may get abused some by people that have money, I not sure. But, I try to get both a boy/girl every year and try to et them what they ask for, as long as it not a laptop, lol!
The Salvation Army mentioned above may help or know where some of these stores are around them.

You can go to Salvation Army, St. Vincent De Paul, or you can call the local welfare office to see if they can point you in the right direction.
