Its a difficult drug to come off of but I believe that people can be helped to fight it effectively ...I wont use the word cured as it is likely an addict will always have some addictive behaviours...;

I was on drugs..once an addict always an addict..there are recovering addicts like me but some days I still crave very badly. People with addictive personalities suffer.If they want to stay clean they can..I have to take 1 minute at a time..not one day at a time like I was told in rehab. What helps more than anything is support from friends/family. If nobody is encouraging you to stay clean, you will give up and relapse. (experience talking)

I have known people that have gotten over it. It just required a strong will to DO it. Also, having good friends and even family that understands (rarely) but mostly friends will help. Try doing activities for your health and meet new people. Hanging out with the same friends is sure to not help at all which is completely understandable.

you can get over addictions, but you have to want to get over it. Plus, you would have to get new friends, cuz you wouldn't want to hang out with the druggies anymore obviously. also, find out the reason for the addiction and treat that thru counseling, and just find new ways to keep busy and new interests.
